- Beginning of Chandana Yatra: To protect Their Lordships from the blistering summer heat, the 21-day Chandana Yatra begins. The deities are completely smeared with cooling, fragrant sandalwood paste (*chandana*) mixed with camphor.
- The Gift of the Akshaya Patra: Draupadi received the famous *akshaya-patra* (the inexhaustible pot) from Lord Krishna. Given by the Sun-god, this pot would produce unlimited amounts of food for the Pandavas and their guests until Draupadi herself finished eating and turned the pot upside down for the day.
- Vyasadeva Writes the Mahabharata: The great sage Srila Vyasadeva began writing the epic *Mahabharata* on this day, dictating it to Lord Ganesha for the spiritual welfare of all humanity.
- Sudama's Offering of Chipped Rice: Sudama, Lord Krishna's poor Brahmin classmate, visited Dwarka to meet the Lord. Hesitant to ask for help, he offered Krishna a tiny handful of chipped rice. In return, Lord Krishna secretly rewarded him with unimaginable opulence, turning his humble hut into a golden palace.
- Twice Protection of Draupadi: Lord Krishna protected Draupadi twice on this day: first, by providing her with an unlimited sari during the assembly hall dice game, and second, when Durvasa Muni and his thousands of disciples visited the forest demanding food. Lord Krishna took a single grain of leftover rice from Draupadi's pot, ate it, and instantly satisfied the hunger of all the sages.
